JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse LOCATION: Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center DEPARTMENT: Hematology/Oncology WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings WORK TYPE: FLEX - 40W Overtime
BARGAINING UNIT POSTION
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing patient assessment, patient/family teaching and triage as well as direct patient care including chemotherapy, biologic therapy and other therapeutic infusions and order entry. Provides clinical support to the provider, patient and their family to assist in the treatment of the patient's condition. Completes order entry as directed in EPIC and Beacon. Rotates through treatment room to provide direct patient care. Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing of same in medical record to ensure continuity and quality of care. Promotes a clean environment. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Works under the general direction of the Operations Manager, Cancer Serivces for professional and daily operational issues. Orients under Outpatient RN CEP. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates proficiency using computers.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required. For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required. For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
BLS certification preferred and required within 60 days of employment. ACLS/PALS may be required within 1 year of employment (unit specific). Duration of on-the-job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual unit. Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN); preferred at hire or must obtain within 2 years. If not OCN certified, require completion of Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course during orientation period. Minimum of two years prior oncology experience preferred (at least two years of med/surg experience required). Qualification to pass medications required. BLS required, ACLS certification preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
