Seeking Clinical Nurse Specialist for our Neurology and Neurosurgical units at The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee Neuro Clinical Nurse Specialist The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the clinical leader for the acute care neurology/neurosurgical units within the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a neuro populations, evidence based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. These are essential to advance the practice of nursing and the professional development of neuro nurses. The specialized knowledge and skills are used within three major areas of focus: patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. The CNS and the Nurse Manager are partners in leading the nursing clinical practice area. The CNS coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence based care strategies. The CNS is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies, and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the unit/system, local, state, and/or national and international level.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Preferred. Consideration given to other applicants with a clinically focused Masters Degree in Nursing. Graduate preparation must have included clinical experience. If the Clinical Nurse Specialist certification was not obtained, a post-masters Clinical Nurse Specialist certificate must be obtained within 3 years of date of hire to maintain employment in this classification. A minimum of 4-10 years of acute care healthcare and active clinical(bedside) nursing required. Top priority given to those applicants with Neuro, Stroke, and/or Neurosurgical experience. A minimum of two years of active advanced practice nursing preferred with strongest consideration given to Neuro, Stroke, and/or Neurosurgical practicing APRNs. Additional Requirements: Current and unencumbered Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Tennessee, or in the process of obtaining. Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Tennessee ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support BLS Basic Life Support Current National Advance Practice Registered Nurse Certification in area of specialty |
