Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System is currently recruiting for a Physician Assistant to work in our Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The duties and responsibilities for the physician assistant in the surgical intensive care unit include but are not limited to: -Daily rounding to observe & record each patient`s medical progress update medical records & change orders as appropriate & permitted herein, including notification of responsible physician of significant changes (documentation of consultation with supervising physician is required; notes & orders do not have to be cosigned). - Documentation of discharge summaries (supervising physician must write a discharge note or cosign the discharge summary) - Documentation of progress notes & summaries in the patient`s medical record - Drawing of blood specimens for laboratory tests & other procedures - Education & counseling of patients & families in preventive care, medical conditions & use of prescribed treatment & medication - History & physical examination, initial (supervising physician must review & countersign all admitting inpatient H&Ps) - Initiation of requests for consultation & scheduling of special studies - Obtaining & documenting informed consent & documenting procedures performed for which the PA is responsible - Ongoing outpatient & inpatient care for assigned patients - Order of diagnostic studies, such as laboratory tests, radiology studies or electrocardiograms - Other duties as assigned Some non-routine duties may include, but no limited to: - Administration of topical or local anesthesia; Aspiration - needle, of joints & bursae: Assistance in intraoperative care; Bronchoscopy under physician supervision; Endotracheal suction; Excision - benign lesion, skin & soft tissue; Gastric lavage; Incision & drainage - abscess; Insertion - Foley catheter; Insertion - nasogastric tube; Insertion & removal - intravenous line; Insertion & removal - peripheral arterial line; Insertion & removal of midline/ PICC lines at bedside with ultrasound; Lumbar drain; Removal - suture; Spine & brain drains; Suture/closure - laceration, simple; Thoracentesis; Topical cautery, Wound debridement & care and other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Various tours of duties and shifts as assigned, subject to change based on the needs of the agency. Financial Discloser Report: Not required
