The Registered Nurse (RN)-lntensive Care Unit is responsible for care of critically ill adult patients such as: cardiac, medical and surgical patients. Incumbent is responsible for recognizing and reporting physiology and/or psychological deviations such as symptoms of hemorrhage, shock, obstructed airway and/or anaphylaxis. The incumbent uses critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and deliver care. Incumbent provides nursing care for complex patients, independently carrying out all nursing functions related to cardiac monitoring, treatments, medications, vasoactive infusions, ventilator management and invasive monitoring modalities. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining up to date all mandatory training and attending required in-services as well as maintaining current ACLS and BLS certification. The incumbent will possess effective communication skills and customer service practices. Duties include, but not limited to the following: Utilizes critical thinking skills and clinical decisional authority, prioritizes patient care by assessing the needs of the unit/are as a whole and assigning staff appropriately. Proficient in providing nursing care for patients placed on cardiac monitors and proficient in the identification of cardiac dysrhythmias including but not limited to: symptomatic bradycardia, frequent or paired or multifocal PVC's, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, pulseless electrical activity, and asystole. Assesses clinical data for neurological, cardiac/vascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and skin and documents findings and reports abnormalities. Incorporates assessment findings into treatment plan (e.g. cardiac monitor, pacemaker, glucometer, etc.). Safely provides assessment and care for patients undergoing surgeries, procedures, and treatments. Administers medication safely and accurately.
