MEDVAMC is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility with service-lines serving medical, surgical, extended care line and neurological inpatients and outpatients, with a Level III Emergency Department, and multiple community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC). There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. The Clinical Educator is a registered professional nurse who provides formal/informal/virtual instruction for clinicians, support staff, patients and families, and the community. The educator assumes responsibility for the coordination and implementation of learning activities for the MEDVAMC. Additionally, the educator collaborates with multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of an effective education program, including orientation, in-services, continuing education, mandatory training programs (such as BLS, ACLS), and competency assessment and validation. The Clinical Educator also designs curriculum and delivery of education programs for nursing staff. The educator executes position responsibilities with clinical education that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to providing educational opportunities with consideration to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering education and training programs for staff. The Clinical Educator/RNTTP Program director position will also serve as the lead program resource to staff and to the facility regarding RNs enrolled in the RN Transition to Practice program (RNTTP) to ensure the transition of the nurse resident from an advanced beginner to a competent professional.
