PAP Coordinator - Sleep Disorders Laboratory

General Description: TheSleep Disorders Laboratory PAP Coordinator is a specialized role, within the polysomnography technologist job description, developed to work in coordination with the Sleep Disorders Laboratory Manager and Sleep Disorders Clinic Physicians to effectively guide the patients through the sleep study process.
The PAP Coordinator position in the Sleep Disorders Laboratory is designed to be held by an individual who has exceptional customer service skills, the ability to work independently, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills and is detail oriented. This individual will be based in the Sleep Disorders Lab, but will be required to travel and work in the Duke Neurology Sleep Clinic.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow up with all ordering physicians who have patients with positive studies for the purpose of seeking new referrals to clinic or additional testing
Make new patient appointments in MaestroCare for sleep clinic
Obtain PAP download/compliance data
Ensure all required paperwork is on file and available (patient questionnaire, etc.)
Call patient to confirm clinic appointment.
Remind patient to bring machine and/or smartcard
Perform patient and family education
Check PAP equipment (confirm pressure settings, function, etc.) reporting any findings to the DME company and physician team
Assist in troubleshooting PAP problems (machine, leaks, mask fitting, concerns, etc.)
Mask and PAP pressure desensitization
Be available to respond to questions and patients' needs
Receive prescriptions for PAP from physicians
Track and maintain PAP clinic inventory supplies (masks)
Send PAP prescriptions and maintain appropriate correspondence to home health care companies with necessary documentation
Contact patient via letter providing all contact information (name & contact number for home health care company, PAP coordinator number, etc.)
Document in chart home health care company
Follow up with DME to provide proper maintenance and supplies
Follow up with PAP QA patients (30 day post study) needing assistance
Make patient appointments for PAP clinic returning patients
Triage phone calls, directing them to sleep lab or clinic schedulers, physicians or home health care company
Available as a resource for patients with questions regarding equipment, supplies and insurance
Prepare PAP compliance summary reports for sleep lab administration review
Responsible for other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Clinical/ Technical Competency:
Maintains expertise in all technical aspects of the diagnostics and intervention
Acquires, maintains, and applies current knowledge of Sleep Medicine field
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred or A.A.S degree in a medical or science field, or High School Diploma with 4 years experience in Polysomnography. Current BLS certification.
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
Registered with the North Carolina Medical Board
Experience: Must have minimum of 2 years of Sleep Lab experience working as a Sleep Technologist performing PSGs, CPAP, BPAP, ASV titrations, mask fittings, and scoring; 1 year at the Duke Hospital Sleep Disorders Laboratory.
