JOB SUMMARY: The role of the Research Financial Analyst is to assist the Research Administrative Officer, team members, and faculty to develop, analyze, and conduct financial analyses to assess the viability of financial plans and programs, under occasional guidance. The incumbent will help develop financial statements, compensation analyses, financial packages, and presentations for various projects. This is a remote/hybrid position, required to physically be in the office at least one day per week.
The Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is a leader in clinical care, education, and research. The Department has over 280 staff across ten divisions. The department seeks a seasoned, strategic, and forward-thinking Financial Analyst to work collaboratively and collegially with the Research Administrative Officer, Chief Business Officer, and other VUMC constituents. This position will specifically be responsible for post-award finance management of industry-sponsored clinical trials in the Department of Neurology. This includes invoicing, reconciling, and financial analyses.
The Financial Analyst will need to gather, assimilate, and synthesize the appropriate data to enable leaders within the Department to make well informed decisions. A strong foundational knowledge in finance and excel, with an attention to detail and drive for excellence is highly desired.

Develops projections to model the financial impact of programs and projects.
Designs, develops, and modifies financial forecasting models and simulations for programs. Accumulates and analyzes data from existing or established databases.
Analyzes, accumulates, and reviews data for financial reports. Conducts technical research and prepares synopses on relevant topics.
Assembles data and compiles drafts, outlines and graphic materials for financial presentations. Coordinates efforts of work group.
Analyzes the effects of proposed federal and state statutes and regulatory actions which may impact long range financial planning.
Analyzes, tracks, reconciles, and maintains post-award finances within clinical trial research; future tasks to include pre-award finance responsibilities.

Presents analysis, ideas, and findings using the appropriate data visualization and presentation tools [such as Word, Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint].
PROBLEM SOLVING (INTERMEDIATE):- Uses critical thinking and process improvement i.e. coaches and mentors development of problem statement, describes current state, identifies root causes, creates future state, coaches and mentors development of solutions and action plans with a sustainability plan. Applies appropriate tools to address issues.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (INTERMEDIATE):- Planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION (INTERMEDIATE):- Demonstrates the ability to write clear, detailed, and comprehensive status reports, memos and documentation. Demonstrates an understanding of effective composition, such as having first line in a paragraph state the subject.
